Bankruptcy and Real Estate — What Every Real Estate Lawyer Needs to Know

Author(s): Trainor Fairbrook

On May 16, 2009, Nancy Hotchkiss will serve as a co-panelist at the 28th annual State Bar of California Real Property Section Retreat. The presentation is not quite a “Bankruptcy for Dummies” course, but will cover key principles of bankruptcy law in which every real estate attorney needs to be conversant. The panel will also cover how a bankruptcy can alter typical contractual provisions between parties such as buyer/seller, landlord/tenant, owner/contractor, and borrower/lender, regardless of whether those relationships exist prior to the filing of the bankruptcy petition or arise during the course of the proceeding.
